Yeah, some of the lyrics are awful, but the instrumentals are fun enough to make up for it. I’ll put it on if I just want to rock out. To me, Drones is just a ridiculously fun album, which is kind of ironic because the subject matter is so dark. I still love both of those albums, they’re only so low because I think they’re weaker relative to the other albums. In my opinion, Drones ranks second to last, with only The 2nd Law below it.

It just feels like Muse taking themselves a bit too seriously.

I appreciate your enthusiasm for the album but I seriously do not see/feel that the album is that creative, and the concept is super basic and not particularly well executed. Psycho is super fun live and as a song but it's definitely super basic when it comes to lyrics and it also drags on a bit too much. The Globalist has potential but it does feel a tad cheesy too and the intro is unnecessarily long I think. Revolt is just garbage, it's probably one of the worst songs they have ever made, it's just so terribly cliche and lame and the lyrics suck. Anything else I write on this post it's my personal opinion evidently.ĭead Inside it's not a bad song but I feel like it's a bad opener, it kinda just drops you into the album and that alone makes me skip it every time. It does have good songs like indeed Reapers and The Handler (the best by far of the album) but the rest is just.not that great. It feels empty and forced and I can't connect with it in any way. Like Get Up and FightĪll in all, I think it's an album that sounds too much like old Muse but without bringing anything new. Revolt : the verses are fun, the chorus is really bad.It starts so well, but it sounds outdated. Even live, I get bored after 2 minutes of jumping to the same riff.the lyrics are really really terrible. Passed the riff, it keeps repeating over and over. Psycho : I think it's the Muse single I hate most.Drones : fun song, the only "experimental" song in the album even though I am not a big fan of the result. There's nothing in it that justify its length. The Globalist : sounds too Musey but it feels forced.Mercy : it sounds too much like Starlight without all the interesting things going on in Starlight.Defector : it's a fun song, but got a bit boring over time.Reapers is a great song : the "baby" part is cringy but other than that great guitar work and great melody. The lyrics are cool, the song is amazing and fun and Matt's vocals are great. Dead Inside : I love this song so much. The Handler : amazing Muse song, everything about it is great : the mood, the lyrics, Matt's vocal the riffs.the only thing that stop it from being in my top 10 Muse songs is the boring solo.If it was more interesting, it would be in my top 5 Muse songs without a doubt. At least not anymore than the other albums. The concept is mainly limited to the lyrics, I don't feel it that much in the composition. The lyrics are Matt's most terrible ever ! Especially Psycho, Mercy Defector and throwing Baby and Drones in all the song ruined them. The concept is lazy : "Drones controled by Drones.etc" I am one of the fans that hate Drones and think it's Muse's weakest.I can understand that some people love it and it's great for them ! But here are my thoughts on the album : If you hate Drones, I suggest you to listen to whole thing at least once while paying attention to the lyrics and trying to understand the story. The Globalist is one of the best Muse compositions since it uses so many assets and characteristics from the band and also builds up just well and ends perfectly closing up the album.

Those songs are also incredibly creative writing wise and are very entertaining in general. I think this is a great combination and end up creating an album that is good for both true fans and casual friends. Songs like Reapers, Handler, and Defector have a more hard rock sounding style while Dead Inside and Revolt are more more easy to digest. Drones doesn't hit it out of the park but definitely does a great job on that aspect. Concept albums are usually great since the band mostly tries to organize the lyrics and songs to make the entirety of the LP sound more like an actual narrative. The story Drones tries to tell is extremely compelling specially when listening to the whole thing. But that does not mean that the album itself is lacking. Like many others, I think the music videos are extremely cheesy and lazy. Personally, as a music nerd, I think this album is beyond good and would even say it is great. I understand that many people look down on this LP as if it was one of the worst.
